Last month, the US-based company Seed Health launched a vaginal probiotic product containing multiple strains of Lactobacillus crispatus (1). Their new vaginal product, called VS-01TM ($ 99,- for 8 tablets), featured on many social media channels (2). Other vaginal products based on L. crispatus are being developed too. For example, the companies MGH and Biose Industrie are developing a product (LBP) based on multiple L. crispatus strains (3).
These examples clearly show that treating vaginal health problems using L. crispatus preparations is considered to be a good approach and companies invest substantial resources to develop vaginal solutions. Indeed, this is in line with the scientific evidence that shows that L. crispatus is a key species in vaginal health (4).
With their developments, the aforementioned two products (not available in Europe) follow an idea that Microbiome Center already implemented two years ago. Operating at the forefront of science, Microbiome Center together with our Dutch pharmacist developed vaginal suppositories containing two different L. crispatus strains in 2022. These suppositories are available as magistral preparations (30 suppositories for € 88,-). You can prescribe these directly (i.e. without using the advice aid) in your account by clicking on the “prescriptions” button on the homepage, and then selecting “Magistral product” on the order form.
