This probiotic strain was isolated from the feces of a healthy child and is one of the rare lactobacilli that has a complete glutathione system with which it can produce this potent antioxidant (1,2). Interestingly, in vitro, preclinical, and clinical evidence shows that this strain, in various forms of administration (such as supplements, kefir, fermented goat milk, and cheese), in fact reduces oxidative stress at systemic level (2-5). There is also some evidence that this helps to reduce insulin resistance (6-8). L. fermentum ME-3 has also been shown to inhibit several different pathogens, including Helicobacter pylori (9-10).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This strain is now available as a building block with a typical daily dose of 2\u00d71010 cfu\/d (at 3g\/d). For more information and all studies, you can consult the i-button in our online platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Oxidative stress and H. pylori infection<\/strong><br>Because of the unique capability of L. fermentum ME-3 to reduce oxidative stress and to inhibit H. pylori, two new questions have been added to the second step of the Advice Aid (Medical background). If you suspect that your client is suffering from oxidative stress, or your have indications for this from Biovis mitochondrial diagnostics, you can fill this out in the Advice Aid and the new L. fermentum ME-3 building block may be advised.
